8/11/2015 newsweek.com: It's Time to Haul Down Another Flag of Racist Hate - Rick Perlstein

You know that racist flag? The one that supposedly honors history but actually spreads a pernicious myth? And is useful only to venal right-wing politicians who wish to exploit hatred by calling it heritage? It's past time to pull it down.
Oh, wait. You thought I was referring to the Confederate flag. Actually, I'm talking about the POW/MIA flag.

After reading Mr. Perlstein's article I first had to ask what's with the "racist hate" thing. Nowhere does the article even attempt to link the POW/MIA flag to racism. It is simply an addled rant by a man who appears to be pissed off because he was born too late to participate in the anti war movement of the 60s. My guess is he hasn't had anything noteworthy published in a while and felt he needed a headline that would garner attention based on current events, regardless of the article's content. Left wing yellow journalism at it finest.

More to the point. Mr. Perlstein, I fly the POW/MIA ribbon on my automobile. If you will contact me we can arrange to meet and you can attempt to remove the symbol you so abhor. The symbol I cherish in honor of my brothers who remain unaccounted for from the Vietnam war.

Postscript: This is absolutely priceless

8/13/2015 newsweek.com: The Story Behind the POW/MIA Flag
Rick Perlstein is the national correspondent of The Washington Spectator, on whose site this article first appeared. This piece was updated by the Spectator on August 13 to remove the word "racist" from the headline, and has been similarly adjusted here. An apology from the author and a response from Spectator editor Lou Dubose were also appended to the original article and have been replicated here at the bottom of the piece.
