Jack's Enclave - Obama Unveils Plan On College Affordability
Return To Archive

"We can't price the middle class - and people working to get into the middle class - out of a college education," Obama said during a speech at the New York state university in Buffalo.

This is so wrong-headed. A college education? For what? For a part time job in the retail or restaurant/bar sector?

8/21/2013 Reuters: U.S. businesses are hiring at a robust rate. The only problem is that three out of four of the nearly 1 million hires this year are part-time and many of the jobs are low-paid.

8/06/2013 newsmax.com: According to figures produced by the House Ways and Means Committee, 270,000 full-time jobs have been added since January 2009 compared to 1.9 million part-time jobs, The Washington Times reports.

8/02/2013 pjmedia.com: Of the 953,000 jobs "created" so far in 2013, only 23%, or 222,000, were full-time. 731,000 were part time.

The issue, Mr. President, is jobs. Jobs that provide a comfortable living for those that understand the concept of 8 hours work for 8 hours pay, 40 hours a week.

The middle class of the 50's, 60's and 70's was not comprised of those with a college education. They were the tradesmen and craftsmen in the manufacturing and construction industries. The transportation, auto, steel, oil and electrical workers. They were the ones that began their career as a laborer and retired as job foreman. College does not produce a middle class. Secure, middle income jobs do. Want a strong middle class? Implement policies that will encourage creation of private sector middle class jobs.
