Jack's Enclave - Somebody Else Made That Happen

In a July 14, 2012 campaign speech in Roanoke, Va President Obama is quoted as saying "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."

This quote illustrates one of my concerns about this President. It implies that to be successful one must rely on the government, thus promoting the necessity of big government. He might as well of said:

If you were successful, the government along the line gave you some help. There was a public sector employee somewhere in your life. The government helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. The government invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business, you didn't build that. The government made that happen.

Got news Mr. President. Those that have been successful would have been so regardless of what the government made happen. It was their vision, imagination, drive and determination that made them successful, not the environment or resources provided by a government.

In this same speech President Obama said: "Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet". That's about as ludicrous as the story about Al Gore taking credit for inventing the Internet. The Internet was originally conceived and supported by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) for the purpose of creating new technologies that might have high tech military applications. The Internets creation and early development had nothing to do with commercial enterprise.

Smoke and mirrors, vague inferences and illusions are all President Obama has to offer in support of his failed policies. His attempt to give government credit for entrepreneurial success in this nation is absolutely absurd.
